Staying Organized While Crafting

Staying organized while crafting is one of the hardest things a person can do, especially if you have children or another job that comes first. However, if you stay organized, you’ll find that your crafting projects are nicer and that you get less frustrated when crafting. Also, you could save money. How many times did you have to re-buy a supply or tool that you’ve already bought but simply could not find? Organized crafters have more fun with their hobby, so learn these tips for staying organized!

First, it is important to set aside enough time to craft and clean up. Remember that cleaning up might take a long time, so if you’re crafting before your kids get home from school or while they are asleep, save enough time for clean-up. When you have to clean up in a rush, you’re more prone to simply throwing supplies in drawers or on shelves. Take the time to put items back where you got them, and your life will be easier next time you decide to craft.

Once or twice a year, devote an entire day to cleaning up your crafting room and supplies. Organize your paints and papers according to color. Throw away any glue that has dried up. Store your other supplies so that they are easy to find and out of the reach of small hands. Check your markers and toss any that no longer work. A good time to organize is after the holidays, when you’re finished making many gifts all at once and when you’ve received new supplies that you can organize.

To make your life easier, spend a little money on organizing tools. Shelves work wonders when you are trying to give order to a craft room. You can also try purchasing caddies for certain supplies or drawers for others. Decorating your organizing boxes and bags can be a craft project in itself, so don’t worry-organizing can be fun too!

If multiple people use the same supplies, make sure everyone is clear about where certain things go. Do you keep your green glitter with the Christmas supplies or with the multi-color glitter? Do you have your fabric in order by color or buy how often you use it? Do you want to store rubber stamps according to size or by theme? When everyone is on the same page, you can work together to keep your crafting space clean and organized.
